Google’s Project Starline Could Change How Companies Use Holograms

Once reserved to revive artists like Tupac, holograms are finding a new sense of purpose in the workplace. 

The ability to use this technology for work conferences and similar events is in its early stages, but Google is working to accelerate the trend by expanding Project Starline. 

Project Starline offers a three-dimensional video call experience, allowing users to communicate with colleagues and loved ones in a more interactive way.  

By merging computer vision, machine learning, spatial audio and high-resolution cameras, Google has been able to manifest a user’s movements and size to produce a realistic rendering.  

Following months of testing, Google plans to introduce Project Starline to its corporate partners’ offices, such as Salesforce and WeWork, by the end of the year.  

“As we build the future of hybrid work together with our enterprise partners, we look forward to seeing how Project Starline can help employees form strong ties with one another, doctors form meaningful bonds with their patients, and salespeople make deeper connections with their clients and customers,” the company said in an announcement.
