Recent experts have brought the importance of neurodiversity in the workplace to the forefront. There have been steps taken to better accommodate gender and race diversity, but advocates say that neurodiversity may be just as important to a company’s success.
Neurodiversity is used to describe the variations of the human brain in reference to sociability, learning, mood, attention and other mental functions.
There are various different behavioral categories that most people fall into: the engagers, the avoiders, the ‘go along with it’, and the ‘I’m just here’ guys.
The engagers are those unafraid of being in the middle of the action, reacting to jokes, and joining in on the fun.
The avoiders find being involved in a crowded public event stressful and will find any way to avoid the situation.Â
The ‘go along with it’ people aren’t necessarily engagers, but would get along with them. They will observe situations, but won’t be experiencing it from the front row.
The ‘I’m just here’ guys are those who do not draw attention to themselves, but are interested in their surroundings. They can unemotionally observe a situation, but do not want to be involved.
Some people may be categorized as one of these descriptors, or a combination of them. Still, it is important to keep in mind how such people would interact in a workplace.
