Newark-based coworking space 3rd Space is situated in the city’s Ironbound District and 80% occupied by a huge variety of professionals after its soft launch in May.
Kenny Miles, a founding partner of 3rd Space, said that its close ties to the community are what helped fill up the 12,000 square foot facility.
Newark is currently undergoing a major downtown redevelopment, so several coworking companies have flocked to the area as the industry continues to grow.
With this massive growth in the city, 3rd Space has aimed to set itself apart from the competition. This started with their team which features Jennifer Donnolo, president of 3rd Space and a psychotherapist, her husband and managing member Ian Palmer and her father Joseph Donnolo, who is a developer and founding partner. She looked at 200 candidates before choosing Miles for his position based on his polished connection skills.
Additionally, the company hosts a series of community events on various topics. Recently, it held a talk on bullying that featured Mj Rodriguez, star of the show Pose.
Another strategy 3rd Space uses to stand out is its flexible pricing that offers a price point for a wider audience.
“It’s important for us to have an affordable price point,” said Miles. “There are so many talented people in Newark.”
