The Wing has laid off another 56 employees from both hourly workers and corporate staff on July 1.
Two weeks ago, the company informed workers about the staff cuts as the company faces obstacles caused by the pandemic.
“We are pausing our programming, the app [which keeps members updated about events] and will continue to keep memberships paused,” the email read. “We know that we need to rethink our spaces due to the effect the pandemic has had our businesses like ours. The Wing will go on, but we need to tear down the foundations, evolve and rebuild the way forward.”
This news follows previous layoffs in April, where the majority of its hourly workers and half of its corporate team were cut.
The company has faced scrutiny over the past few months, including claims of low pay and long hours, as well as the mistreatment of people of color in their workspaces. Just last month, Audrey Gelman resigned as CEO in an effort to begin “a long-overdue era of change.”
