- Former WeWork location in Williamsburg, Brooklyn to be reflagged to IWG.
- By taking over this location, IWG will add 79,000 square feet to its USA workspace portfolio.
- The former WeWork location will be operated under IWG’s Spaces brand.
IWG, the world’s largest provider of flexible workspace, operating in over 1,100 towns and cities in more than 120 countries is opening a new state of the art Spaces center providing international businesses, entrepreneurs, freelancers and freethinkers with over 79,000 square feet of innovative office space in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Spaces Williamsburg will open on December 1, 2020 and is IWG’s first site within the Williamsburg area.
Located in Brooklyn’s most desirable address, the new center, formerly operated by WeWork sits across the East River from Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The eclectic neighbourhood, known for its melting pot of cultures is lined with upscale retail and Instagram worthy restaurants and eateries.
Housed within a former textile factory, Spaces Williamsburg retains many of the original features of the building, bestowing a sense of vintage industrial charm on the center. The flexible workspace couldn’t be better located for the subway with the L, G, J, M, and Z lines just moments away.
Wayne Berger, IWG’s CEO for North America said, “Spaces Williamsburg is a paradigm of the modern workspace. With an established entrepreneurial community on its doorstep, the center is exceptionally located for the big companies through to start-ups and freelance professionals looking for first class facilities and a minimal commute”.
The opening of Spaces Williamsburg is set to tap into the trend towards local and hyper-local working. As a company, IWG has witnessed a significant shift towards the suburbs, with businesses and employees increasingly seeking to reduce the commute and work closer to home. IWG has seen a notable increase in demand for suburban locations both globally and within the USA. Demand for areas including Westchester and Southern Connecticut have risen considerably, and are up 30% and 43% respectively compared to pre-COVID, while city center locations have seen a decline, with Downtown and Midtown New York down almost 30%.
In the wake of COVID-19, companies big and small are rethinking their real estate strategy and are turning to flexible workspaces during economically challenging times. IWG is uniquely positioned to provide building owners with a full suite of flexspace offerings and areas such as Williamsburg remain key areas of focus for the world’s largest provider.
