Microsoft Takes A Slightly Less Firm Vaccination Approach

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says that the company will use a combination of vaccines, testing and exceptions when welcoming workers back into the workplace.

As the Delta variant causes cases to surge across the U.S., many companies like Google and Facebook are taking a firmer approach with their return-to-office strategies and requiring employees to be vaccinated if they want to work on-site.

Microsoft is shifting to a hybrid work arrangement, allowing employees to work on-site and remotely when their offices reopen in September.

“We have already set the policy that up to 50% [of the time], without asking anyone, you can work from home,” said Nadella. “And if you need exceptions to that, you can ask your manager and get approval for that as well. So we have already incorporated quite a bit of flexibility.”

Nadella revealed he would also be abiding by the new hybrid policy, and coming into the office when necessary. 

Microsoft is also looking to address increased levels of burnout and mental health issues across the workforce by learning how to identify the signs, and encouraging workers to take a break when needed.

“We want to be grounded in what is it that ultimately drives productivity, not just as output but including even considerations, such as wellness,” said Nadella.
