As the technology industry faces labor shortages, some companies have started offering more perks and benefits in order to attract new workers and retain their employees.
One company based in Bangalore is taking a more dramatic step by offering a three-day work week.
The four-day work week has become an increasingly popular concept in recent years, but fintech firm Slice is now allowing new hires to work three days a week with a salary at 80% of the current market rate.
“It’s the best of both worlds,” said Rajan Bajaj, founder of Slice. “Workers can get salary and full benefits working a three-day week, and spend the rest of their time chasing a startup dream, looking for a co-founder or pursuing a non-work passion.”
As competition for new talent tightens up, Slice is hoping its fresh approach will allow it to stand apart from other companies on its path to recruiting 1,000 engineers and product managers over the next three years.
Slice’s three-day work option is now available starting this week at a time when many workers are returning to in-person work.
“A three-day work week allows us to recruit a certain caliber of talent because it’s a perk big tech companies like Google and Amazon don’t offer,” said Bajaj.
