Ireland’s government has introduced a new tax deduction on heating, electricity, and broadband for remote workers.
Remote workers operating from home will receive a tax relief of 30% on the cost of expenses that aims to offset the anticipated spike in energy costs.
This plan is eligible to those who are not currently receiving allowances from their employer. The rules will help taxpayers reduce their income tax by up to €100.
While this move hopes to better support remote workers, while also addressing climate change and energy usage, CIPD Ireland says the government needs to do more to incentivize workers and businesses to adopt flexibility.
However, others voiced their satisfaction with the new policy, saying that it offers companies a concrete sign that hybrid adn remote working are here to stay.
“Getting equality of experience right is complex. Organisations need to have technology and spaces front of mind,” said Paul Clark, SVP EMEA of videoconferencing firm Poly. “They need to understand their employees’ different working styles. Only by doing this can organisations provide the right kit and technologies to create a workforce that is productive and happy, irrespective of location and without treating them differently.”
