Amava is a platform that connects new retirees and empty nesters with flexible positions, volunteer opportunities and unique experiences. The company has revealed key trends found in its research for the 2020 workplace.
“Statistics show that more than ever, Baby Boomers are working long into their golden years,” said Mark Silverman, CEO of Amava “As the workforce continues to age, experts predict that 25% of workers will be 55 and over by 2020. We found that upwards of 50% of our Members are searching for flexible job opportunities in an effort to stay engaged and continue to earn in this next stage.”
Traditional 9-to-5 work schedules are slowly becoming a thing of the past, and this generation is taking advantage of it. Now, Boomers expect flexible schedules and remote working options as they have been tied to a healthier work-life balance and more productivity.
Along with this is the growth in the gig economy. Gig work allows workers to have a source of income, while giving them a chance to progress or reinvent current skills they have, which is good news for companies who need to scale-up during busier times.
Additionally, Boomers are finding themselves wanting to start businesses as they have spent most of their lives working for others.
One of the most important factors for Boomers in the workforce are the health benefits. The cost of healthcare has skyrocketed, so working for reliable health insurance is one way this generation can extend their retirement savings.
