Large corporations have become a huge part of coworking consumers in the past few years. According to various coworking founders in Chennai, many retail, manufacturing and logistics firms are seeking flexible office space due to its cost efficiency, networking and healthy infrastructure.
“There is a shift in the coworking model — instead of start-ups being the main focus, coworking spaces are looking at corporates and freelancers as the main target,” said Vijay Anand, CEO and founder of The Startup Centre. “Chennai needs to position itself as a capital of national/international value if it needs to be comparative to Bengaluru, Mumbai or Delhi though.”
Additionally, Kanchana Krishnan, Senior Director at Markets, Retail & Data Center, said that coworking spaces have been a massively positive change that commercial markets have adopted.
Chennai has led the coworking segment in India for the past two years, with the sector contributing nearly 6.2 million square feet last year.
