New York, NY (January 29, 2020) — George Comfort & Sons, Inc. and Industrious announced today that they have finalized a new 15-year agreement for nearly 60,000 square feet at 135 West 50th Street. In addition to being the newest shared workplace location for the national provider, Industrious will also manage the 925,000-square-foot Midtown tower’s brand new amenity center, “Club 135 by Industrious,” which George Comfort & Sons is constructing for the exclusive use of building tenants.
“Industrious’s dynamic approach to workspaces and amenities is the perfect fit for the forward-looking environment we are creating at 135 West 50th Street through our repositioning program,” said George Comfort & Sons President and CEO Peter S. Duncan. “Our tenants will benefit from access to exceptional services and professionals, while Industrious will have the opportunity to open its newest outpost in a premier Midtown tower.”
“135 West 50th Street is being transformed into one of the most desirable buildings in Midtown and Industrious is proud to be working with George Comfort & Sons to further amenitize the property,” said Justin Stewart, President and Co-Founder of Industrious. “Our number one mission is to provide an amazing workplace experience. We’re expanding our reach beyond traditional shared workplaces to manage tenant experience across whole buildings; we look forward to delivering a great day at work on a much larger scale with Club 135 by Industrious.”
The largest premium workspace provider in the U.S., Industrious provides a productive and engaging work environment for companies of all sizes and stages. Its shared workplace at 135 West 50th Street will span 37,000 square feet and offer a professional atmosphere with the right mix of thoughtfully-designed space types; all-inclusive amenities such as Wi-Fi, a fully-stocked cafe with breakfast served daily, and member networking events and programming; and access to its vast national network. It is expected to open Q3 2020.
Club 135 by Industrious is a 20,000-square-foot amenity center accessed by all building tenants; it will also be managed by the workplace provider. The expansive space will include a multipurpose room that can host events for up to 200 guests, collaborative workspaces and executive conference rooms, lounge areas with comfortable seating and an indoor/outdoor terrace overlooking West 50th Street, as well as a wellness facility with offerings such as yoga classes, meditation areas and stationary bikes.
Working with architecture and design firm Gensler, George Comfort & Sons’ significant repositioning of 135 West 50th Street is reinvigorating the tower for today’s urban environment. In addition to the new amenity center construction, improvements include the reimagining of the lobbies and entrances with an open and airy design, installation of double pane windows, and the transformation of retail spaces and storefronts. A grand staircase will also be constructed at the 50th Street entrance to provide direct access to the Industrious second-floor space.
Mr. Duncan, Andrew Conrad, Matt Coudert and Alexander Bermingham represented George Comfort & Sons in-house.

In November, an agreement was reached with Urbanspace, the team behind some of New York City’s most popular markets, to open a new through block food hall on the ground floor of the tower in 2020.
