Accommodating the needs of different generations has always posed a challenge for business leaders. Now, companies are facing increased pressure to improve the employee experience, especially from new-to-the-workforce Gen Zers.Â
In order to find deeper insight, Generation We conducted a study of 500 Gen Zers across the U.S. to find out what this generation wants from their employer, and what companies can do to attract and retain these workers.Â
One of the most significant findings was that remote work is not a top priority for Gen Zers. Â
In fact, 61% said that fair pay and benefits were the most important factors in the workplace, compared to just 34% who said remote work was the top three most important job benefits.Â
Even more, Gen Z expressed actually wanting to work in an office, with 70% saying they prefer a hybrid work model and just 30% saying they want mostly remote work arrangements. Â
This is likely due to many of these workers entering the workforce at the beginning of the pandemic and not having the opportunity to experience in-person work environments.Â
Additionally, 51% stated that offering mental health support was among the top three most important factors they look for in a job. Â
An emphasis on mental health means more than offering stress balls and soothing teas — Generation Z sees mental health support as a medical necessity.Â
For these workers, supporting wellness should come in the form of offering sick days for their mental health, as well as providing access to resources like therapists.Â
