New York City’s Private Sector Vaccine Mandate Goes Into Effect

New York City’s vaccine mandate has gone into effect and will require all on-site employees, including those in the private sector, to show proof of vaccination status.

New York City Implements Largest Private Sector Covid Workplace Vaccine Mandate

New York City has passed a new vaccine mandate that will apply to the private sector.  

The new mandate, which is now in effect, will see all “workers in New York City who perform in-person work or interact with the public in the course of business” will be required to show proof of vaccination, according to the city’s government website.

“Today…we make history in New York City. We lead the nation with the strongest vaccine mandate anywhere — private sector vaccine mandate — reaching hundreds of thousands of businesses,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio.  

Employees working on-site must provide proof that they have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, then have 45 days to show proof of their second dose if they have taken the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

The city does not include “non-City residents who are performing artists, college or professional athletes, or individuals accompanying such performing artists or college or professional athletes” in their definition of “worker.” 

De Blasio also stated that there will be proof of vaccination status will be required at all indoor venues, including movie theaters, sports arenas, concert venues, restaurants, and others.
