As the Omicron variant causes cases of Covid-19 to skyrocket, France has announced that it will require all citizens that are eligible to work from home to do so for three days a week starting in January. Â
This is the second time this type of protocol has been implemented in the country, having first done so during March through May of 2020.Â
However, just 30% of France’s working population worked remotely in 2020 according to an August survey from data platform Statista.Â
French Prime Minister Jean Castex also announced that outdoor public gatherings will be limited to 5,000 people.Â
France has seen a record number of infections in recent weeks, with the country averaging around 70,000 new cases a day. The country marked over 100,000 cases over the weekend, which is the highest number reported since the onset of the pandemic.Â
