The Biden administration has faced another loss in its attempt to pass a workplace vaccine mandate.

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court voted 6-3 to block President Biden’s mandate that would require companies with 100 or more employees to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 or submit to weekly testing.

However, there was a separate ruling that stated the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) vaccine mandate could remain for employees at federally-funded healthcare facilities.

“I call on business leaders to immediately join those who have already stepped up – including one third of Fortune 100 companies – and institute vaccination requirements to protect their workers, customers, and communities,” said President Biden following the court’s decision.

Since President Biden signed this executive order, several companies and opponents from Republican states have been outspoken against the mandate, stating that the administration was overstepping its authority.

Although the Supreme Court claimed that President Biden had the law on its side in terms of requiring healthcare workers to be vaccinated, using the OSH Act of 1970 that allows the government to ensure workplace safety is too broad and not applicable for Covid-19.
