What’s going on:
With the rise of ChatGPT last November, people are starting to wonder how AI may impact employment. This public-facing AI chatbot has an impressive range of capabilities, from answering inquiries to producing content, programming, and beyond.
ResumeBuilder.com conducted a survey in February, questioning 1,000 U.S. business leaders about their current and future use of ChatGPT. The results revealed that an astounding 49% of companies had already implemented the chatbot, with an additional 93% expressing their intent to do so.
Why it matters:
A whopping 66% of companies leveraging ChatGPT utilize it for coding, 58% for crafting copy, 57% for customer service, and 52% for summarizing meetings and documents.
Since ChatGPT was made available in November of last year, a whopping 48% of companies have already opted to replace human employees with the automated software.
How it’ll impact the future:
An overwhelming 63% of business leaders believe that within the next 5 years, the use of ChatGPT will inevitably lead to a substantial number of layoffs, with 32% claiming that it is “definitely” and 31% believing it is “probably” so.
ChatGPT has been an effective cost-saver for nearly all companies who’ve adopted it, with a staggering 99% reporting savings.
If this AI can replace workers and save companies money, it’s undeniable that many more companies will be utilizing it, which isn’t the best news for workers.
