Generative AI (GenAI) is impacting productivity, creativity, and decision-making across a wide range of industries, and its leading organizations to pivot strategies and operations to adapt to using this new technology.

LexisNexis recently published its 2024 Future of Work Report, which surveyed over 500 professionals globally and took a closer look at the technology’s impact on the workforce. Most notably, the survey reveals changes in perceptions towards Gen AI — with 72% of respondents anticipating it will positively impact their daily tasks, and 82% expecting it to automate repetitive administrative duties.

The survey, conducted between May and August 2023, also revealed that an overwhelming 87% of respondents expressed interest in adopting generative AI technologies, with applications spanning from marketing and sales optimization to strategy, and finance. This technology is reportedly not only automating mundane tasks but also aiding professionals in complex decision-making and creative processes.

According to LexisNexis, only 4% of professionals view GenAI as a threat. Instead, 45% of professionals reported improvements in job satisfaction due to integrating GenAI into their workflows.

“The recent and rapid rise of GenAI marks a pivotal shift in how organizations must operate and strategize,” said Todd Larsen, President, Nexis Solutions, a division of LexisNexis. “We believe that through collaboration and a shared understanding of GenAI, organizations can adopt and embrace the massive opportunities it provides.”

Key findings suggest more professionals are accepting and curious towards AI software, with many professionals eager to explore ways to integrate it into daily work. This rather fast change in perception is supported by AI’s rapid adoption rate — surpassing the fast rates of adoption of other advanced consumer technology like smartphones and tablets. The change in perception is also due to its broad application across different professional fields including customer service, software engineering, and product R&D.

It’s reported that industries including consultancy, financial services, legal, and technology are positioned to benefit significantly from GenAI’s capabilities. Over half of the professionals surveyed anticipate generative AI performing between 11% to 50% of their current job tasks within the next two to three years.
