JLL has appointed Joe Silva to serve as its chief information security officer, where he will oversee and introduce new strategies that will keep employees and customers protected.
Silva will lead JLL’s information security strategy and work alongside the company’s technology teams, including its proptech division JLL Technologies.
Additionally, Silva’s responsibilities will involve reviewing current security policies, procedures, and implementing preventative practices.
“As the commercial real estate industry embraces technology and data-driven decision-making, we are pleased to welcome an industry leader like Joe Silva to head up our security posture,” said George Thomas, chief information officer at JLL
More and more real estate leaders are incorporating new technology into their buildings in order to improve building management, reduce costs, and offer more personalization. However, these advancement comes with increased exposure to cybersecurity threats.
“A connected place provides a range of critical functions and services to its systems. The systems that these functions and services rely on will be moving, processing, and storing sensitive data, as well as controlling critical operational technology,” the GCHQ, the UK’s intelligence agency, stated. “Unfortunately, this makes these systems an attractive target for a range of threat actors.”
