Female-oriented coworking operator The Wing has announced a new LinkedIn-like app where members can post jobs and hire one another.
Audrey Gelman, CEO of The Wing, said that the members-only platform virtually formalizes the networking that the firm supports.
“It’s essentially like a LinkedIn product,” said Gelman. “But the problem is that LinkedIn and some of the other dominant hiring platforms have a ton of bias around women, and some guys think it’s a dating platform and send messages to that effect.”
Although there is value in providing a more supportive job-seeking and networking platform for women and non-binary people, but the difficulty lies in rewarding only those that have access to The Wing’s resources. While the firm does offer some scholarships, the majority of members are paying up to $2000 a year to be members. Overall, it seems to be mostly supportive of those who are financially privileged.
