Corporations like Apple and Amazon are joining the ranks of businesses that are posting pay ranges on their job listings thanks to Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act popularizing this practice. 

The law was passed in January of this year in an effort to boost pay transparency across companies in the state, and now other parts of the country are catching on.

States such as California, Connecticut, Maryland, Nevada, and Washington have similar laws, but Colorado’s legislation is much more expansive. 

According to the law, employers are required to post salary information upfront on the job listing and provide an explanation of their benefits.

The pay transparency law applies to any company with at least one employee in Colorado, which has applied to more businesses due to workers moving around during the pandemic. 

However, some companies are avoiding the law by offering remote job positions with the exception of Colorado residents. 

Still, companies such as Accenture, Amazon, Apple, Chime, Hilton, IBM, and Salesforce are including pay ranges for their job listings and directly referencing the Colorado law.
