As Millennials continue to make up a significant portion of the U.S. workforce and remote arrangements become the norm, the presence of these professionals has spread across nearly every corner of the country.Â
In order to track the migration patterns, CommercialCafe has been analyzing the movement of Millennials since prior to the pandemic, identifying the top metros for these workers.Â
The firm took seven factors to determine the top metros for Millennials, including: population growth between 2016 and 2020, proportion of Millennials in 2020, price, median earnings, unemployment, health insurance availability, and educational opportunities. Â
The top 10 most attractive metros for Millennials were:Â Â
- San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, CaliforniaÂ
- Austin-Round Rock-Georgetown, TexasÂ
- Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, WashingtonÂ
- San Francisco-Oakland-Berkeley, CaliforniaÂ
- Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, ColoradoÂ
- Salt Lake City, UtahÂ
- Nashville-Davidson–Murfreesboro–Franklin, TennesseeÂ
- Raleigh-Cary, North CarolinaÂ
- Columbus, OhioÂ
- Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MassachusettsÂ
Notably, the San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, California metro went from the 10th spot to number one as a result of performing well in four of the seven indicators.Â
Although the cost of living in this area is high, its median earnings for workers 25 years and older ranked number one on the list.Â
While the desire for amenities that nurture mental and physical health remains important for Millennials, financial health has emerged as the top priority when choosing a place to live.Â
