Washington D.C.-based independent beauty store Take Care offers customers solace in the heart of the city’s bustling environment. Now, Becky Waddell is ramping up her store’s services to include a coworking space.
The front of the space will remain a retail space filled with natural beauty care items, but further back will house “Workwell” where clients can get work done, participate in yoga sessions, and enjoy a healthy snack bar and a small library.
Workwell aims to focus on mental well-being according to Waddell, who said she created a space that she herself needed.
“We just decided that we really wanted to double down on our community-building efforts,” said Waddell. “Having this space for people to be in a peaceful setting while they work, surrounded by people that value their own self-care and a norm of ‘my personal wellness is not superseded by the expectations of my job’ is super important.”
The concept of introducing coworking services into a retail space isn’t new. For example, one of the biggest retail/coworking mergers happened when The We Company acquired New York’s famous Lord & Taylor flagship store for $850 million.
