Companies have had to work quickly to implement remote working strategies, but some may be struggling to implement secure protocols that allow people to work from home.
The technology sector in particular has long been a proponent of remote working, but it can be difficult to safely implement the tools workers need as they typically use specialized software, several operating systems and are processing sensitive data. Here are some ways tech companies can ensure their data remains safe during remote working.
Creating a private, dedicated workspace where sensitive information cannot be seen, heard or accessed is a good first step. The ability to log out of the company system and lock away their workspace at the end of the day also ensures an extra sense of security.
The use of Shadow IT can become a huge threat to data security as employees try to find solutions to solve new challenges they may face when working from home. Companies should anticipate their employees’ needs and offer them a list of approved solutions prior to them working at home.
Companies who are relying on VPNs should also check that data protection policies are applied at the endpoint level to make sure that sensitive information is actually protected.
The pandemic has also led to an uptick in scams and phishing attacks, so companies should remind workers to be careful about clicking links or downloading files from unfamiliar emails.
