Survey Identifies What Employees Expect From The Future Of Work

According to Atlassian’s “Reworking Work” study, worker demands are changing, and leaders need to adjust their hiring and managerial processes in order to retain them.

Survey Remote

A new survey from software company Atlassian peels back the layers of what to expect from the future of work and how employees play a role in ushering in this new shift.

The “Reworking Work” study of 6,000 workers confirms what other analyses have found: there is a disconnect between what employees and employers want.

For instance, 78% of respondents said that they want to keep flexible work arrangements and have a remote working option in the future.

Some companies have picked up on this demand and are opting to continue providing some form of flexibility in the future. In fact, organizations are finding this arrangement is the more advantageous work option for both the business and employees.

Another trend that will play a larger role in the workplace is the importance of shared values. The survey showed that 49% of employees would quit their jobs if their employer’s values did not align with their own.

One way to have a better understanding of whether workers will share the employer’s values is to include a values interview as part of the hiring process. By using behavioral questions, managers can assess whether a candidate’s values will be a good match for the company, and vice versa.

Each emerging trend will require employers to experiment with new workplace methods, adapting when necessary, and repeating those processes until a long-term strategy is laid out that is beneficial to both employees and employers.
