Many countries now offer digital nomad visas that let foreign nationals live and work remotely within their borders. These include Portugal, Malta, Brazil, Costa Rica, and Thailand, among others. 

Spain is one of the latest countries that wants to get in on the action.

Its proposed digital nomad visa is part of efforts to make Spain a more entrepreneurial nation. It’s open to any remote workers living outside the European Economic Area, as well as Spanish citizens who have chosen to move abroad.

These types of visas typically intend to attract skilled workers and money into specific locations, in order to help boost economic activity.

There are an estimated 35 million digital nomads working around the world, with the United States the most popular destination.

A 2022 study by Growmotely found that 74% of professionals and 76% of entrepreneurs expect remote work to become the new normal. With an increasing number of countries offering digital nomad visas, this style of work and travel looks set to accelerate.
