WeWork has announced that it has acquired New York-based coworking startup Spacious.
The three-year-old company transforms restaurants during the day into coworking spaces with the intention of taking advantage of under-utilized urban areas.
Spacious is one of many niche coworking spaces that have attracted a new audience into the coworking world — in this case, those who have long worked from coffee shops and diners.
“Spacious’s team and real estate and operational expertise will help enable WeWork to continue to give our members access to the work space they want, when they need it,” said Chris Hill, WeWork’s chief product officer. “We’re thrilled to welcome Spacious to WeWork.”
Preston Pesek, CEO of Spacious, said that WeWork’s vision for the integration of work, technology and physical space would allow them to provide more on-demand workspaces globally.
