The Woodlands, TX, March 04, 2013 — (PR.com)

The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center has begun a $60-million expansion and renovation, an 18-month project that will add a new guest room wing, lazy river and restaurant while updating the property’s 60,000-square-foot conference center.

The award-winning resort and conference center is located in The Woodlands at 2301 North Millbend Drive.

The resort will introduce a third Fairway Pines building with 184 new guest rooms and suites with views of the property’s Panther Trail™ golf course, in addition to the transformation of its existing Fairway Pines guest rooms.

The new design and interiors of the resort, featuring contemporary Texas architecture with strong elements of stone, steel and wood, are being conceptualized by the Dallas-based interior design firm Jim Looney & Associates and the architectural firm Gensler of Houston. Transparency, warmth of materials and a connectedness to the landscape create a relaxing respite for both weekend getaways and productive business meetings.

As a founding member of the International Association of Conference Centers, The Woodlands Resort is at the forefront of meeting and event innovation and plans to incorporate the newest design trends and creative offerings to further enhance its position as a leader in the conference, meetings and events industry.

Among other new amenities being developed for both business and leisure guests is a 140-seat steak house with views of the 18th hole, a private wine vault and outdoor patio.

In addition, a new signature lazy river will wind 1,000 feet through the surrounding forest highlighting the property’s Forest Oasis Waterscape™ where guests enjoy a lagoon-style pool, a two-story waterslide tower, flowing waterfalls and Puffy’s Sprayground™, a synchronized water experience complete with computer-activated waterspouts and fountains themed after The Woodlands’ mascot, Puffy Pine Cone. The poolside Cool Water Café, serving burgers, sandwiches, salads and flavorful drinks, complete the experience.

As part of the property’s transformation, enhancements will provide guests with a modern spa experience with more of everything to offer – from spa services and products to a more relaxing environment to rejuvenate.

The renovation, while large in scale and scope, will be strategically planned in phases to maintain resort operations as usual. The summer season will usher in poolside fun at the Forest Oasis Waterscape, resort dining and exciting new room package offerings. The resort’s two on-property golf courses will also remain open during the renovation.

“This significant expansion and renovation marks a high point in our resort’s 38-year history,” said Greg Parsons, general manager of The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center. “Just as The Woodlands community around us continues to evolve, our history paired with this new beginning will enhance the resort’s status as a premier destination for conferences, business travelers and families.”

The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center is owned by The Woodlands Development Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Howard Hughes Corporation (NYSE: HHC).
