7 Career Categories Defying Job Market Trends With Remote Work Growth

With labor markets tightening, and online job board data recording the total number of job postings in 2023 had decreased by 15%, the prospect of landing a highly sought after remote opportunity this year might seem dim.

However, some job search categories have seen an increase in remote work opportunities last year. A recent report published by Flex Jobs highlights seven career categories that have experienced growth in remote work opportunities. The published list excluded already popular remote fields like IT and marketing.

Flex Jobs examined over 50 career categories by comparing the number of job postings for 100% remote jobs from January 2023 to December 2023. According to the report, the seven leading career categories, from highest to lowest growth rate included:

  1. Sales – 48%
  2. Account Management – 15%
  3. Client Services – 15%
  4. Business Development – 15%
  5. Bilingual roles – 15%
  6. Medical & Health – 13%
  7. Education – 10%

work from home arrangements can lead to less work distractions and increased productivity.Employees’ demands for greater flexibility, work-life balance, and the opportunity to work from any location influenced the rise of hybrid work environments in 2023. However, Flex Job’s data reveals that 51% of professionals prefer a fully remote role.

For employers, embracing remote work could lead to a broader talent pool, as geographical limitations are no longer a barrier to hiring. Though it also requires slight changes in management styles and communication methods — due to a greater reliance on digital tools and platforms for team collaboration and project management.
